CCE Full Form is “Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation”
Continuous and Comprehensive Assessment (CCE) was an assessment process mandated by the 2009 Indian Right to Education Act.
This assessment approach was introduced by the state governments in India as well as the Central Board of Education Indian High School. , for students in grades VI to X and XII in some schools.
This gives students in the lower grades the opportunity to face the board exams at an early age. The Karnataka government introduced CCE for grades 1 to 9, later it was introduced for grade 12 students as well. The main purpose of CCE was to assess all aspects of a child’s school attendance.
It was believed that this would help relieve the child during/before the exam as the student would have to take a number of exams throughout the year, none of which would be repeated at the end of the exam or course covered.

As part of this system, student grades were replaced with grades evaluated through a series of academic, curricular, and extracurricular assessments.
The aim was to reduce student workload through continuous assessment by taking a series of short tests throughout the year rather than a single test at the end of the academic program.
Grades were only awarded to students based on work experience, skill, innovation, consistency, teamwork, public speaking, behavior, etc. to assess and present an overall measure of student ability.
It helps students who are not good at academics to show their talents in other fields like arts, humanities, physical education, music, athletics and also helps motivate knowledge-thirsty students.
In 2017, the CCE system for students taking the Class 10 Board Exams for 2017-18 was removed, restoring the mandatory annual Board Exam and removing formative and summative assessments under the redesigned assessment pattern.
Unlike the old CBSE pattern of a single exam at the end of the academic year, CCE administers multiple exams. There are two different types of tests. Namely constructive and additive.
Preliminary tests include the student’s work in the classroom and at home, the student’s performance on quizzes and oral exams, and the quality of the projects or assignments submitted by the child.
Preliminary exams are held four times in one academic session and have a weight of 40% of the total. At some schools, an additional written exam is taken instead of several oral exams. However, at least one oral examination will be conducted.
The summative exam is a three-hour written test that takes place twice a year. The first Summative Assessment or Summative Assessment 1 (SA-1) takes place after completing the first two forms.
The second (SA-2) is conducted according to the following two formats. Each aggregate has a weight of 30% and both aggregates have a weight of 60%. The summative evaluation is only carried out by the schools.
However, the questionnaires are partly created by the CBSE and the evaluation of the answer sheets is also strictly monitored by the CBSE.
Once completed, the progression of one additive is not repeated in the next. A student has to devote himself to completely new topics for the next yoga.
At the end of the year, CBSE processes the result by adding the starting score to the cumulative score, i.e. H. 40% + 60% = 100%. Based on the percentage achieved, the Board deducts the CGPA (Cumulative Grade Point Average) and the grade thus achieved.
In addition to the summative assessment, the board offers an optional online proficiency test, which can also be used in conjunction with CCE results as a decision-making aid for the choice of further study subjects.
The Board has also instructed the schools to prepare the report card and it is duly signed by the principal, the student.

The results of the CCE system at the initial level vary. Although most schools implemented it quickly, teachers and students used to the old assessment and examination system found the changes difficult to cope with.
The main goal of CCE is to relieve the pressure on students who are unable to participate effectively in the education system, leaving them frustrated and with low self-confidence. However, the system has also been criticized for focusing more on projects and activities than actual learning.
Critics also say the student workload hasn’t really been reduced because stressed students struggle with projects and oral exams throughout the year despite reduced exams. Students are required to participate in activities even if the curriculum is not covered.
Despite these criticisms, the results of this system were considered better than the previous system’s memorization, which placed an undue emphasis on memory and facts rather than understanding and creating a learning environment.
